Analysis of digipaks - Chalie Simpson, Young Pilgrim.

This is Charlie Simpson's debut album as a solo artist. It is a different direction of music from his previous bands; Busted and Fightstar. This is a more acoustic guitar sounding album and the simple layout and calm tones of the photography bring this across.

In the digipak there are 6 pages of the lyrics to all the songs that feature on the album and a page for acknowledgements. There are only two pictures of Charlie in the whole digipak and the photographs follow the same style of natural beauty and the simple life shown through the mise-en-scene of the cottage interior and outdoor country scapes.

The saturation of the colour and tone of the photographs are similar and create a washed out, slightly aged appearance. This makes the photographs feel nostalgic and special. Also the use of the borders around the photographs creates the idea of a polaroid.

The same motif is used throughout the digipak and creates an interesting border decoration to otherwise plain page. It also links to the old style of the digipak. The font used throughout is a simple sans serif font so it is easy to read. The title of the album and songs are in a different font so they stand out. They are also have a slightly faded effect which adds to the aged nostalgia concept.

This is the back cover of the digipak. I think this could be more interesting as I don't really like the large white border - I think it would look better and more professional if the picture went closer to the edges because there is too much white space.

I really like the style of the photographs used in this digipak and the effective simplicity of the layout which I hope to use in my digipak design.
