Band Biography

Band Name: 'The Empty Crowd'

Members: Lead vocalist and guitar Tom Ledger, bass Zach Brown, and drums Charlie Fletcher.

Tom was a student at London Met University where he met Zach in 2004. During their time at university they to started band together casually and after they graduated they took a year off to backpack around the world. During their travels, they met Charlie Fletcher in New York where he was working in a record shop. They instantly connected through their mutual passion for music like early Beatles.

During the boys stay at New York, they hung out with Charlie a couple of times and found that he was a drummer in his free time. They started to band together regularly just for fun doing early Beatles covers. It wasn't until a couple of days before Tom and Zach's flight to LA that they had decided to become a band with Charlie, they both didn't know what to do with their lives so they decided to do the thing that they enjoyed best, playing music.

The boys got signed with Sony Music Entertainment in 2006, and released their first album 'Changes' in 2007. Their first single 'Didn't Know' went number 1 in the UK and number 3 in the US. From then on, the band went pretty mainstream having a lot of airplays and fans gathering to see their shows. The band toured around Europe then into the US, their last concert was at Maddison Square Garden in New York which sold out with 20,000 attending. Performing at the most famous arena in the world was a big step for the band, 'It was the most exhilarating 2 hours of our lives' the band said to Rolling Stone during their interview in 2007.

The Empty Crowd doesn't really fit into the conventions of a normal rock band, they use influences from other genres and incorporate it into their music to make their own original sound. 'It's like taking words from another language, we take sounds from other types of music and convert it into our own language'.

5 years from their first album, the boys have come back with their new album 'City & Colour', which talks about their experiences together and what had happened since their  last tour. Their first single 'Good Life' from this album being released early 2012  talks about this. They hope that this album will be a growth from their last, 'A lot of things have happened since then, we're not the same young kids who just wanted to be rockstars', this album shows that they have matured and have grown out of teenage adolescent view of the world.
